Manchester United transfer news: £35m Frenchman linked; two more signings close says report

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

Manchester United will go head-to-head with Manchester City for Eliaquim Mangala this summer according to the Manchester Evening News.

The paper claims the player could move for up to £35million later this summer. However, the same report suggests United are also keen on both Thomas Vermaelen and Mats Hummels. One thing is for sure, United will need to bring in one if not two new centre-backs this summer to replace the outgoing Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.

Speaking of Hummels, the Express claims United will make a one-time offer of £20million for the German international and ask Borussia Dortmund to take it or leave it.

Given the player’s age and ability, do not be surprised if they opt to leave it.

The Daily Star claims United are going double Dutch, as they close in on moves for Nigel de Jong and Stefan de Vrij.

The two men are both part of Louis van Gaal’s Netherlands squad at this summer’s World Cup, but the former has since been ruled out for two to four weeks with a muscle tear.

That said, if van Gaal does ultimately opt to sign the former Manchester City player, he will have plenty of time to recover in order to see a deal go through before September.
