The Fulham manager says he would not want players like the Brazilian in his team.
Fulham fans can watch the 2014 World Cup and only dream that some of the best players in world football will one day ply their trade at Craven Cottage.
There is one Brazilian star, however, who will certainly not be making the switch to West London as long as Felix Magath remains the manager.
The Fulham manager was being interviewed by former Bayern Munich man Hasan Salihamidzic while appearing on German TV channel ZDF.
"I like team players. Players like Neymar, where it’s all about the individual scoring goals... I don’t know," the German said. "I probably wouldn’t even take him for free".
Though tongue in cheek, this was a rather bold claim by Magath. He was making a statement about the type of team he wishes to build at Fulham, but his decision to criticise Neymar, arguably one of the tournament's top performers so far, will raise some eyebrows.
Magath did say, however, that he would welcome fellow countryman Thomas Muller to his side. Muller has recorded two assists so far at the World Cup, and is considered a true team player by the Fulham boss.
Magath also stuck the boot in to Germany manager Joachim Low over his decision to play Philipp Lahm in midfield. If he were in charge of the national team, Magath would have the Bayern star take up his usual position as a full-back.
"Philipp wants to play there, but it’s not about that. It’s about the team. For this team, he is more urgently needed as a left back. Benedikt Hoewedes can’t fulfil that role properly at the moment".
