Everton have Tello alternative in Barcelona's £5m forgotten man

With Cristian Tello set to snub a move to Goodison Park, Roberto Martinez would be wise to take a gamble on former Liverpool target Bojan Krkic.

Value is not something you would necessarily associate with any transfer in the world of football but if Everton can complete a deal to sign Barcelona outcast Bojan Krkic for just £5 million, it could end up being a bargain price for a player who once drew comparisons with Lionel Messi.

Bojan is available for that very price, with Liverpool previously linked with a move for the forward who remains in limbo after previous club Ajax opted against making his season-long loan a permanent one.

Everton could be a viable destination though, with the Toffees in the market for a winger, having already contacted the Catalans regarding a season-long loan move for Cristian Tello.

The Toffees have a good relationship with Barca, having previously taken Gerard Deulofeu on a season-long loan that proved highly successful for both parties.

And Everton manager Roberto Martinez could use the newly-formed ‘special relationship’ between the clubs to take a look at Bojan, as the Merseysiders aim to break in to the top four.

With Deulofeu unlikely to return to Goodison Park and Tello already moving to reject the Premier League side’s advances, Bojan may be the only viable alternative on Barcelona’s books with the Spanish giants keen to offload a player deemed surplus to requirements.

But at just 23, Bojan still has most of his career ahead of him and while a quick glance at his Wikipedia page reveals failed spells at AS Roma, AC Milan and Ajax the reality is that the player was often injured, played out of position for mere minutes at a time and even suffered homesickness at various points.

That could change at Everton, a club with a reputation for helping players rebuild their careers following troubled stints elsewhere.

Tim Howard moved to Goodison after a difficult time at Manchester United but is today heralded as one of the finest keepers on the planet while Kevin Mirallas, a player regarded as one of the brightest hopes in world football as a teen, has been able to restore his reputation with the Blues.

Available for relative peanuts, Martinez may just pull off another transfer market masterstroke if he lands the youngster.
