All the latest Chelsea transfer news and views including an apparent offer for Real Madrid star, Manchester City seemingly acquiring Roma defender and more.
One of the stars of Real Madrid's 2013-14 season and the 2014 World Cup with Argentina, Angel di Maria, has been the subject of multiple bids from Premier League clubs including Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea, according to reports in Spain.
MARCA write: "English football is the most attractive option for Di Maria, and he has many suitors there. The Manchester teams are one, but the city isn’t to his liking. Arsenal are another [after showing economic strength with Ozil] and even Chelsea are interested."
Contractually-bound to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu outfit until 2018, di Maria has a market value of £26.4 million.
Capable of playing in a multitude of attacking-midfield positions, di Maria has played in four of Argentina's World Cup games, attempting over 58 passes per game, with 11 key chances provided for his team-mates, almost six dribbles per match, 21 shots on goal and one goal.
Chelsea, though, have a wealth of options where di Maria would play - with Eden Hazard primary choice on the left of the three in Jose Mourinho's 4-2-3-1, Willian on the right and now Cesc Fabregas in the middle.
Veteran goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer, who recently committed to a one-year extension at Stamford Bridge, said Fabregas is a natural replacement of the midfield engine role that legendary athlete Frank Lampard made his own for so long.
"It’s a big shame losing someone like Frank Lampard who has been an unbelievable player in the Premier League," said Schwarzer. "He’s a world-class player and it’s a huge loss for Chelsea considering how long he has been at the club, but he’s obviously looking for another challenge.
"With Cesc, you’re talking about another world-class player replacing [Lampard]. That’s what happens at the top end of the league and at clubs like Chelsea. Players of equal quality replace the old ones."
And finally, AS Roma centre back Mehdi Benatia - widely regarded to be one of the finest centre backs who are seemingly available on the transfer market - will head to Manchester City after previously being linked with Chelsea.
The Express claim that Manuel Pellegrini has "agreed a deal in principle" believed to be worth £30 million for Roma.
