The Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini is to be released in July according to numerous reports.
Samsung news website SamMobile is reporting that the smaller brother to Samsung's flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5, will hit our shelves around mid-July time.
It's become somewhat of a pattern that with each new headlining Galaxy phone there will eventually be a Mini that comes along to accompany it. This year will be no different with the S5 Mini, although it will be considerably more powerful that any Minis before it.
The S5 Mini is not going to be as dumbed down or featureless as last years S4 Mini, this time Samsung want to keep much closer to its bigger brother in terms of specifications and features.
Despite having the word "Mini" in its name this smartphone is by no means tiny; it has a Super AMOLED 720p display and measures in at 4.5-inches, which is still larger than Apple's market leading handset the iPhone 5s.
You shouldn't expect this device to be slow either as it runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat on a 1.5Ghz quad-core Exynos 3 processor.
For "selfies" you will be able to use the decent spec 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera, or for better quality snaps the rear camera is 8-megapixels.
It will also have the same fingerprint scanner that features on the main S5 smartphone. Quite surprising as you would think Samsung would want to keep their top-of-the-line features on their flagship smartphone, so not to eat into its sales too much.
The S5 Mini will have all the usual connectivity that we've become accustom with in today's smartphones; 4G, Wi-Fi 802.11n, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, IR Blaster, NFC, and GPS will all feature in the device.
As previously mentioned it will run the latest version of Android, which is 4.4.2 KitKat, and also expect to see Samsung's latest TouchWiz UX layered over the top.
There aren't yet any details on pricing, but with the added specs and features the S5 Mini has this year you'll be lucky if it retails at the same price of last year's S4 Mini.
