Germany required extra time to see off the very real threat posed by Algeria in their Round of 16 knockout clash at the Estadio Jose Pinheiro Borba in Porto Alegre, yesterday, Monday, and would have been foiled by the African side had it not been for two Premier League athletes - Mesut Ozil of Arsenal and Chelsea's Andre Schurrle.
Germany triumphed 2-1, but the game was delicately poised at 0-0 after 90 minutes.
Within 90 seconds of additional time, Schurrle proved himself to be a super-substitute as he pulled off a crafty finish before playing a key role in Mesut Ozil's decider just moments before the game's end.

Schurrle has now scored 14 international goals for Germany; seven of which have arrived as he has come off the bench, demonstrating how much of an impact player the Blues forward can truly be.
Having progressed out of their first knockout round, Germany are now tasked with a quarterfinal clash against France on Friday, July 4.
