Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney cheering for USA against Belgium

Manchester United and England striker Wayne Rooney says that he will be cheering for the USA against Belgium tonight.

The final World Cup last-16 tie is currently being played at the Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador, where Belgium are taking on the USA.

The European side will be the favourites to win the contest – they are many football observers’ ‘dark horse’ and have a truly talented bunch of players.

However, the Red Devils have yet to really take the tournament in Brazil by storm, despite winning all three of their group matches.

Belgium kicked off their World Cup campaign with a 2-1 victory over Algeria and then beat Russia 1-0, before edging past South Korea by the same margin.

On the other hand, the USA have defied the odds to reach the last 16 of football’s biggest competition.

Jurgen Klinsmann’s side defeated Ghana 2-1 in their opening match and then held Portugal to a 2-2 draw.

The US went down 1-0 to Germany in their final game, but that was still enough for them to finish second in their group.

The American team have endeared themselves to many with their playing style and progress, and it seems that Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is one of them.

The England international failed to lead the Three Lions beyond the group stage and once again struggled at a major international competition, but that has not stopped him from enjoying the World Cup last-16 ties.

Ahead of tonight’s match, Rooney took to social networking site Twitter to back the US.
