Germany player ratings v Algeria: Chelsea forward helps seal extra time win

German Flag

Chelsea forward André Schürrle, scored in extra time to help Germany beat Algeria 2-1 after a 90 minute 0-0 draw.

Manuel Neuer 8 - Was terrific in goal, coming out and slide tackling three times to stop potential goal chances. Had to get them right otherwise it could have been an awkward three goals conceded.

Shkodran Mustafi 5 - Didn’t provide a large amount to the team and his crosses were particularly poor.

Per Mertesacker 6 - Stayed fairly solid at the back but let in the Algerian attack far too often.

Jerome Boateng 7 - Like Mertesacker, let in the Algerian attack often due to a high defensive line, but played well and nearly grabbed a goal.

Benedikt Höwedes 5 - Made no mistakes but didn’t offer anything else to the team.

Philipp Lahm 8 - Very strong in the holding position and picked up often where the defence lacked. Always gives that extra re-enforcement.

Mesut Özil 7 - Played most of the game not doing anything particularly special, like most his World Cup. However took his goal well and it proved vital after Algeria scored straight after.

Bastian Schweinsteiger 7 - Looked really comfortable in the midfield, passed well, tackled well and offered lots in there.

Toni Kroos 7 - Has an incredible passing talent and showed it off once again here, went really close with a goal but for a great Raïs M’Bolhi save.

Mario Götze 5 - Taken off at the break after a very disappointing first half.

Thomas Müller 7 - Always looks dangerous and went close several times tonight, bagged a great assist for André Schürrle’s goal.
