Algeria failed to win against Germany on Monday, but their performance against the European giants left many admiring them.
The African side were very competitive against Die Mannschaft in their World Cup last-16 clash at the Estadio Beira-Rio in Porto Alegre, and could have even emerged triumphant.
The tie between the two teams went into extra time after it finished goalless in 90 minutes, and it was only an Andre Schurrle goal in the 92nd minute that eased the nerves of the German players.
Mesut Ozil secured the win late on with a close-range effort, although Algeria halved the deficit just moments later through Abdelmoumene Djabou.
Germany eventually won the match 2-1 to book their place in the quarter-finals of the World Cup, while Algeria players bowed out of the tournament with their heads held high.
Former Arsenal and Chelsea defender Ashley Cole watched the match and took to social networking site Twitter to hail Algeria.
Cole is currently a free agent after being released by Chelsea at the end of last season, as was confirmed by the Premier League club on Tuesday.

The 33-year-old left-back also retired from international football before the World Cup when he was left out of England’s 23-man squad.
Which club Cole will now join has not been confirmed, but even without a team, he seems to be enjoying the World Cup.
