All the latest Chelsea transfer news and stories including a notice about the agreement with Atletico Madrid and a jab at neighbours Arsenal.
Chelsea have moved ever closer to welcoming Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa to their Cobham base as the club today confirmed that a "deal had been reached".
An official statement said: "Chelsea can confirm an agreement has been reached with Atletico Madrid for the transfer of Diego Costa, with Chelsea meeting the buy-out clause for the Spanish international.
Because the buy-out has been met, Atleti will no doubt be pleased. Costa, too, will exit the Vicente Calderon with a good reputation, similar to how Fernando Torres left the club and unlike Sergio Aguero, who the Spanish team branded a "villain".
Samuel Eto'o and Ashley Cole's exits were both confirmed by Chelsea today, with the Stamford Bridge side lauding the talent level and potential reached by Cole: "He makes a case to be one of the best in his position," the club said.
The same article also had what could easily be construed as a jibe sent toward North London, as Chelsea reminded Arsenal that Cole had collected far more winners medals at SW6 than if he had stayed at the Emirates Stadium.
"Arsenal without Cole did not lift silverware until this year's FA Cup final a week after he played his final Chelsea game," reminded Chelsea.
And finally, shot-stopping veteran Mark Schwarzer's contract has been extended.
