Nigeria player ratings v France: Chelsea midfielder solid

John Obi Mikel was strong and efficient with the ball for Nigeria, but it wasn't enough to qualify for their first ever World Cup quarter final.

Two second half goals from Paul Pogba and Antoine Griezmann were enough for France to beat Nigeria 2-0 and qualify for the quarter-finals for the World Cup for the first time since 2006, when they lost on penalties to Italy in the final.

Nigeria can be proud of their performance though, and matched their opponents for most of the match. Their final ball though wasn't to the same standard as France though, and thus couldn't score and were unable to qualify for their first ever World Cup quarter finals.

Here are the player ratings for Nigeria:

Vincent Enyeama - 7

Goalkeeper made plenty of stops throughout the match, including Pogba, Benzema and Griezmann. However made a slight error for Pogba's header when he come out for the ball from a corner but could only parry, good performance still though.

Efe Ambrose - 7

Looked energetic down the right wing at the early stages for Nigeria but was slowly forced to stay back and defend as the match wore on, which he did well.

Juwon Oshaniwa - 7

Struggled when Valbuena was playing against him on the France right-wing, however coped with him better and closed him down as the match wore on.

Joseph Yobo (c) - 7

Former Everton defender looked comfortable in marking Giroud out of the match, that ultimately led to his withdrawal quite early. Very unlucky for his own goal.

Kenneth Omeruo - 7

Chelsea defender looked assured in the central of defence, struggled with Benzema's movement though as the match become more stretched.

John Obi Mikel - 8

Chelsea midfielder played brilliantly for the Super Eagles. Cleared a Benzema shot off the line when the score was 0-0 and was the catalyst to many good things nigeria did going forward.

Ogenyi Onazi - 7

Provided good energy in the midfield, but was unfortunately subbed off just before the hour mark after a horrid tackle from Matuidi. Nigeria were playing well when he was on.

Victor Moses - 7

Come back from injury and looked to be up to match speed making some good runs on the break early on, but his impact diminished as his lack of match time caught up with him.

Ahmed Musa - 7

Was outstanding against Argentina, but couldn't make the same impact against France, although it wasn't through the fault of trying. France identified him as dangerous and marked him out of the match well.

Peter Odemwingie - 8

Like Moses, made some strong runs in the early stages of the match as Nigeria looked to dominate France on the counter-attack. Had a good shot saved by Lloris that was the closest the Super Eagles came to scoring.

Emmanuel Emenike - 6

Made some positive runs looking to get behind Koscielny, but didn't have too many touches of the ball and struggled to make a big impact.

Reuben Gabriel - 6

Come on for Ogenyi Onazi after 59 minutes, struggled to get up to match speed at a time when France were dominating the match.

Uche Nwofor - N/A

Come on for Victor Moses after 89 minutes when Nigeria were looking for an equaliser as the score was still 1-0 to France then.
