In a report published by The Metro, Manchester United are plotting yet another big-money deal following the transfers of Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw.
The man in question is Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal, a player who has recently been heavily linked with a £44 million move to Premier League rivals Arsenal.
The Old Trafford outfit are said to be ready to launch an opening £30 million next week, and tempt the Chilean international with a reported wage of £230,000 a week.
Such a deal would see Arturo Vidal become Man United’s second highest earner behind England international Wayne Rooney, and there is little denying that he would be absolutely worth it.
Despite the signing of Ander Herrera, the Red Devils are still light in midfield and undeniably still lack that midfield enforcer who can grab a game by the scruff of the neck.
With all due respect to Michael Carrick, Tom Cleverley, Marouane Fellaini and new signing Ander Herrera, they simply aren’t the type of players to dominate physically and more importantly fairly.
Vidal, on the other hand, has proven during his time at Juventus that he fits the mould perfectly. Last season, in 28 Serie A starts, the 27-year-old recorded an unbelievable 130 tackles – more than Cleverley and Carrick combined.
One possible stumbling block in Manchester United’s plans, however, is Arturo Vidal’s insistence that he wouldn’t leave Juventus for a team that isn’t in the Champions League.
Man United, though, are a special case and whilst they can’t currently offer European football to Europe’s best players such as Vidal, they can assure them that the club is on the verge of an exciting new era under Van Gaal and one which will compete once again at the very top.
