Already a Louis van Gaal favourite, the Feyenoord defender could be a bargain signing for the Manchester United back line.
With two top signings in two days earlier this week, Manchester United fans could be forgiven for thinking there is something of a revolution occurring at Old Trafford.
And far from being the conclusion of their summer transfer business, it appears only to be the beginning.
What's more, among the many top signings Manchester United are looking to bring in, at least one of them might end up being a part of Louis van Gaal's Netherlands squad.
Italian website Corriere Dello Sport are reporting that Feyenoord centre back Stefan de Vrij is set to move to Old Trafford, despite having been courted by Lazio some time ago to the extent that the player visited Rome.
They go so far as saying the Serie A outfit had an agreement with the player that he would move to Stadio Olimipco for the coming season.
This is now looking unlikely given Van Gaal's appointment as United manager, as well as the defender's own impressive performances in Brazil.
De Vrij has featured in every group game for the Dutch, as they dismissed Spain, Chile and Australia to earn a tie with Mexico. The 22-year-old scored in their demolition of World Cup holders Spain, and would be set to join United for a fee around the £8 million mark.
