Manchester United transfer news: Defender exit confirmed; £40m man next to arrive?

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

Manchester United want to continue their summer spending spree by making a move for Alexis Sanchez according to the Sunday Sun.

The Chilean forward suffered World Cup heartbreak on Saturday evening, as his country lost on penalties to hosts Brazil. But Sanchez can hold his head high after starring in the tournament and he is likely to have a number of suitors this summer.

The Sun claims United could get their man if they offer £40million, which given their recent spending spree may not be beyond the realms of possibility.

In other news, the Sunday Express is one of many media outlets to suggest Stefan De Vrij could be on his way to Old Trafford.

The Dutch defender has impressed for Louis van Gaal’s national side and with the need to replace the likes of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, the 22-year-old Feyenoord man could be the perfect solution.

And finally, United have confirmed that Alex Buttner has left the club for Dynamo Moscow.

The Russian side had made the potential deal public last week, but this weekend United have announced the sale on their official website.

Buttner leaves for an undisclosed fee two years after arriving from Vitesse Arnhem.
