La Liga expert: Manchester United fans are going to love Herrera

Manchester United 3

Guillem Balague had plenty of positive things to say about Manchester United new-boy Ander Herrera.

Sky Sports Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has been sharing his wisdom with Sky Sports News regarding Manchester United's new midfield signing Ander Herrera.

Very much impressed with the 24-year-old, Balague sees him as an intelligent, creative midfielder who has a genuine passion for the game.

And importantly for the spectators and fans, he believes it's a certainty they'll take him to to their hearts.

"He was with Cesc Fabregas the one that put the most through balls to the forwards in the whole of La Liga," said Balague. "Though he will need perhaps to score more goals.

"I probably think Van Gaal will use him in another position, as a central midfielder, a little bit deeper. He's efficient, can pass the ball, he's very clever.

"You're [United fans] going to fall in love with him. He's a very young intelligent kid and a guy that, as soon as he learns English, and it won't take long, you will hear him talking about football with a passion."

Promising news for all associated to the Old Trafford outfit. But given that he is only a couple of years younger than Cesc Fabregas, another Spaniard that moved to England this summer for a similar figure - what does the Spanish pundit think of the price United are paying?

"He's a great signing, is he worth €36 million? Ask in a year, in a year's time we'll all be saying yes he is."

Herrera spent 3 seasons at Athletic Bilbao, in which he gradually improved year on year. In April and May the midfielder hit a late season purple patch, going through a spell where he managed to net 3 goals in less than half a dozen games, something Balague rightly points out as an aspect previously missing from his game.

He and Atletico Madrid's Koke are two young midfielder held up as able to do the finer things with the ball as well as being physically strong and imposing, and this mixture of a technical player that can also mix it up is something long missing from the United midfield.

So mark June 2015 in your calendar - for that will be the time to ask whether Ander Herrera has been a good signing, with a resounding yes hopefully being the answer.
