Chelsea star: I don't have a problem with us signing Cesc Fabregas

John Obi Mikel 2

Nigeria midfielder John Obi Mikel believes his standing in the Chelsea squad is not affected by Cesc Fabregas' arrival.

John Obi Mikel's Chelsea future remains the subject of speculation, linked in recent months with switch to Italy, Spain and Turkey.

No offers have yet come in for the midfielder however and as it stands he remains a Chelsea player.

Whether he is in Jose Mourinho's plans is another matter. The 27-year-old made only 11 Premier League starts last season and the arrival of Cesc Fabregas in midfield makes his job even tougher.

He doesn't see it that way however, telling reporters at a press conference that he and the former Barcelona man can co-exist.

"I don't have a problem with the signing of Cesc Fabregas. We have played against each other a lot of times. We don't play in the same position anyway.

"I still have three years left on my contract and want to stay there. I want to congratulate Cesc with his transfer and I'm looking forward to playing with him."

Mikel is currently with the Nigerian international squad, where he will feature in a World Cup last 16 clash against France later today.

He has played every minute for the Super Eagles so far in the tournament, in which Nigerian have won one, drawn one, and lost one, which was enough for them to progress behind Argentina out of their group.

Regarding his future at Chelsea, Jose Mourinho's lack of faith in him at Chelsea last season told it's own story, regardless of how Cesc may effect him or not.

Chelsea are continued to be linked with midfielders, with Paul Pogba, William Carvalho and Toni Kroos linked over the past week.

Another addition of a player of that calibre, and Mikel may have a real problem, as then the writing really will be on the wall, and the prospects of him seeing out the remainder of his deal at Stamford Bridge will become bleaker.
