Real Madrid are ramping up their striker pursuit this summer, and are confident of landing Radamel Falcao from Monaco.
The Colombian has missed out on the World Cup after a serious knee injury sustained early in the year but is expected to be bit again for the new season.
Chelsea are however expected to focus their efforts on Diego Costa of Falcao's former club, but former Blues star Ricardo Carvalho believes it is the Colombian who is the best striker around.
Carvalho is currently a teammate of Falcao's at Monaco, and hopes this will remain, although he concedes that the striker would be a phenomenal fit at Real Madrid.
He told AS: "I think Falcao is the missing piece for the front of Madrid to be perfect. Cristiano is the best player in the world, Bale is very good and Falcao is the best striker Falcao there is. I am defense and I would not want to face them.
"It would be the most feared attack in football history. Anyway, for us is better that Falcao stays."
Falcao scored a goal every other game for Monaco prior to his injury, and even if he remains at Monaco, will get to play Champions League football finally, being a two-time Europa League winner with Porto and Atletico.
Leaving for Madrid will be a temptation, and previous reports have even claimed he has a get-out clause to leave the Ligue 1 side if Madrid come calling.
Chelsea's interest remains on the back-burner, but if he really is the best striker in the world as their former title-winning defender claims, perhaps they will go on to regret not following up on their previous interest in the Colombian.
