Costa Rica v Greece - Key battles: Arsenal forward crucial

Arsenal forward Joel Campbell will be looking to make an impact for Costa Rica against Greece in their last-16 clash at the World Cup.

Bryan Ruiz v Sokratis Papastathopoulos

The Fulham attacker, who has yet to prove himself at the club, has had a fine World Cup and will have no better chance to help his team reach the quarter-finals. Scoring a header against Italy, Ruiz showed that he has not only got good skills, but can also be influential in the air.

Having a good first season with Borussia Dortmund after his big-money move from Werder Bremen, Papastathopoulos has plenty of expertise at the back. He is big and is a strong player who can really time a tackle well.Ruiz will have a tough time against the Greek, but if he can slip him for just a second, then he will get his chance.

Giorgos Samaras v Oscar Duarte

Samaras scored the penalty against the Ivory Coast that sent Greece through to the last 16 of the World Cup for the first time ever. He has certainly been in need of a goal and that will boost his confidence. The 29-year-old seems to either be on form or go slightly missing - if Costa Rica want to progress, he will need to be on form.

After such an impressive performance against Uruguay, Duarte will want the Costa Rican fanfare to continue. Not only defensively apt, Duarte also showed that he is capable of going forward with his goal against Uruguay. On paper, Duarte should have this duel under control, but as we’ve seen so far with this World Cup, anything can happen.

Joel Campbell v Kostas Manolas

Arsenal forward Campbell has had quite the season, bursting onto the scene first by scoring against Manchester United in the Champions league and then fully establishing himself with his goal against Uruguay. He is a constant thorn for any opponents - fast and skilful, he can certainly create chances out of very little.

The 23-year-old Manolas, who plays for Olympiacos, will be relishing this game, especially knowing there will be not many better chances in his career to reach a World Cup quarter-final. Up against Joel Campbell will be a tough test. This outcome of this duel may very well decide the match.
