Wenger: Reported £44m Arsenal target 'one of the best midfielders in the world'

Arsene Wenger Big Coat

Arturo Vidal has been talked up by Arsene Wenger, as they are being linked with a move for the Juventus midfielder.

This morning saw Arsenal linked with a record breaking move for Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal. Reports that came in this week suggested that Vidal's agent was on his way to Brazil - to discuss a move for his client to either Manchester United or Real Madrid, not Arsenal.

But The Gunners would love to put their foot down in the transfer market for a second summer in a row - following up their £42.4 million move for Mesut Ozil of Real Madrid last September.

The reported fee Arsenal would be willing to pay for the player was quoted as being £44 million - a deal which would make Vidal their most expensive player in history.

As for Arsene Wenger, he has certainly had plenty of opportunity to watch the dynamo in action. Vidal is currently starring for Chile at the World Cup in Brazil. Wenger is out in Brazil doing work for French television - so scouting him would have been very easy indeed.

Now quotes attributed to the Arsenal boss are doing the rounds. It is reported that Wenger said this of the player he is being linked with a massive move for this term:

"Vidal is one of the best midfielders in the world. He has everything. Incredible stamina, perfect timing. He’s a marathon athlete who plays football."

There is no doubt Vidal would provide an exceptional option for Wenger and the Gunners - even if Gunners fans might just be wondering why a central midfielder considering they already have a plethora of players who feature in the centre of the park.

Vidal would be a dream signing. But whether his arrival is realistic remains to be seen. Arsenala already have the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere and co who play in the positions Vidal does - however, as Wenger made clear, he is one of the best, so would certainly be worth every penny.
