Yesterday saw Manchester United complete the signing of Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera - concluding a transfer saga that began this time last year.
David Moyes had earmarked the player as a potential option to replace Paul Scholes in the heart of midfield. However the transfer negotiations to sign the player were simply put a shambles.
They had a third party reportedly doing the negotiations for the Spanish under-21 international - and Bilbao swiftly rejected a deal that came under his release clause.
The thought of them returning for the Bilbao man seemed unlikely this summer. Moyes was gone and Herrera had made it clear he wanted to stay with Athletic - after helping them to Champions League qualification.
But he has reneged on that promise - buying out the final part of his contract to join United yesterday in a deal worth around £30 million.
Of course many of the United players will already know Herrera well. A large amount of them would have seen his ability first hand as he was one of the Basque stars which dumped United out of the Europa League back in 2012.
Others have been team-mates with the player. David De Gea and Juan Mata both playing at Under-21 level with the midfield maestro.
Today Manchester United completed the signing of Luke Shaw. The Southampton left-back has become the world's most expensive teenager with this move and the third most expensive left-back - joining on a four-year deal despite interest from his boyhood club Chelsea.
Again many of the team will know him. many have played on international duty with the lad, while others would have been eating his dust for the past two Premier League seasons.
And plenty of them have been welcoming the duo to the club since their respective moves were made...
