Manchester United may have acquired England full back Luke Shaw for a £27 million deal from Southampton, but former centre back Rio Ferdinand has said that, if he had the power to recruit one centre back, regardless of likelihood of transfer, it would be Real Madrid and France stopper Raphael Varane, 21.
Last season, Varane was reportedly a player Arsene Wenger was obsessing over as the Arsenal manager longed to bring the youngster to the Emirates Stadium, along with Karim Benzema. More recently, the player has been the subject of transfer speculation linking him with Chelsea, in order to be reunited with his former boss at Real Madrid - Jose Mourinho.
Varane made just a dozen La Liga starts last term, however, he is excelling for Les Blues at the World Cup tournament in Brazil and so is unlikely to be available in the summer market.

Said Ferdinand on his Twitter: "[I would buy] Varane [for United but] Real Madrid won't sell though."
United have already been active in the transfer market having announced the deal for Ander Herrera yesterday, Thursday, while the BBC confirmed Shaw's switch from the Saints earlier today.
