Chelsea's potential side for next season based on current players and possible signings.
With Luis Suarez banned from playing for Liverpool, Jose Mourinho will be confident of his team’s chances heading into next season.
The Blues have got some transfer activity done early, with a deal for a striker on the cards which will leave Chelsea with one of the strongest looking starting elevens in the Premier League next season.
Here’s how they could shape up.
GK – Thibaut Courtois
The Belgian is possibly the best goalkeeper in the world and if he starts ahead of Petr Cech, few can argue.
RB – Cesar Azpilicueta
The Spaniard was arguably the most consistent defender at the club last season. He starts on his more natural right side.
CB – Gary Cahill
Cahill offers height and presence in the back four. He’s got a good burst of speed, which allows him to account for most strikers.
CB – John Terry
Terry will be well rested as he didn’t feature in England’s World Cup plans. He’ll be important as captain.
LB – Filipe Luis
It would be surprising if Mourinho doesn’t sign the Atletico Madrid man. The fee of a reported £20 million is high for an older player but it would be a solid signing.
RM – Andre Schurrle
Mourinho may opt for Schurrle down the right hand side because of the way he finished last season and his solid work rate defensively.
DM – Nemanja Matic
Matic looked like a top quality holding player when he featured on his return to the club. He starts.
CM – Cesc Fabregas
Fabregas will be looking to impose himself on the side and dominate in a way he wasn’t given the chance to do at Barcelona.
AM – Oscar
Oscar should start in behind the main striker. He works hard on and off the ball and is learning more and more about dropping off defensively.
LM – Eden Hazard
There’s no reason for Mourinho to avoid starting Hazard whenever he gets the chance. All the Blues have to do is get him onto the ball.
ST – Diego Costa
It would be surprising if a move for Costa fell through considering how close Chelsea reportedly are to doing a deal.
