Arsenal's potential side for next season based on current players and possible signings.
Arsene Wenger is under a little bit of pressure having seen rivals Chelsea and Manchester United both improve their squads already, before the transfer window has even opened.
The Arsenal manager needs to make additions to his side ahead of next season, but seems to be biding his time, waiting for the right moment to strike for players who can improve his squad.
We’ve made an attempt to name Arsenal’s starting eleven for next season.
GK – Wojciech Szczesny
The Pole should start next season as the club’s number one regardless of the extra goalkeeper Wenger signs this summer.
RB – Serge Aurier
A deal for Aurier looks likely after he was caught on camera telling a fan at the World Cup that he’d become a Gunnner.
CB – Per Mertesacker
Arsenal’s big German should keep his place in the middle of the defence. He’ll be important for keeping that experience in the back four.
CB – Laurent Koscielny
The Frenchman formed a great relationship with Mertesacker last season and that should continue.
LB – Kieran Gibbs
Gibbs is one of the quickest players Arsenal have and he’ll more than likely start down the left, creating extra width.
RM – Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
The Ox looked dangerous in England’s warm up games for the World Cup and with Theo Walcott still out, he should start.
DM – Alex Song
Arsenal are one of the sides linked with the Barcelona man. Wenger rarely re-signs players but Song would take care of a direct need in front of the back four.
CM – Aaron Ramsey
If anyone other than Ramsey starts in the middle of the team, it will be a major surprise.
AM – Mesut Ozil
Ozil will be the club’s primary number ten next season. He’s not having a great World Cup but he ended last season well.
LM – Joel Campbell
If Wenger wants to start Campbell, he may be confined to a wider role out on the left, drifting into central positions.
ST – Olivier Giroud
Giroud is Arsenal’s main man in attack at the moment. It’s harsh on Lukas Podolski but Wenger showed Giroud faith several times last season.
