Leighton Baines

On the 27th June 2013 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United.

Let's cast our eyes back to this exact day, the 27th June 2014, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 27th June 2013…

Arsha-out

Arsenal playmaker Andrey Arshavin left the club after three-and-a-half years at The Emirates.

Arsene Wenger sanctioned a £15 million move for the Russian six months after he shone on the world stage at Euro 2008.

But despite a promising start to his Gunners career, including an excellent double-brace against Liverpool, he went on to struggle with the rigours of English football.

He joined former club Zenit St Petersburg on a two-year deal, the team he left in 2009 to become an Arsenal player.

Brum-ed out

Chelsea sold Dutch starlet Jeffrey Bruma to PSV Eindhoven. The Netherlands international was once dubbed the 'next John Terry' after impressing as a youngster at the club.

His deal hit a snag, after his medical highlighted a minor heart defect, but it did not prove to be career threatening.

The four-year deal however does include a buyback clause for the player. However, Bruma does not look like returning to Chelsea despite going on to become a regular at PSV.

A sign to many of Chelsea's youngsters that a permanent move might be the best option.

Bain in the neck

A year ago today and Manchester United launched a bid for an England international left-back. On this occasion it was Everton star Leighton Baines.

The player was reportedly a big target for his former Everton boss David Moyes at Old Trafford.

However a £12 million bid for the player was laughed off by Everton and the move only soured the relationship between Moyes and the Everton faithful he was warmly sent off by when announcing the decision to swap Goodison for Old Trafford.

A year later and United have completed a deal to sign Luke Shaw from Southampton. There must be something about this day and left-backs at Manchester United.
