Manchester United have sealed a deal for Ander Herrera, how have fans reacted?

Sir Bobby Charlton was not the only person delighted to see Manchester United clinch their first signing of the summer yesterday.

The Red Devils wrapped up the £29.9 million transfer of Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao after a late hitch, kicking off an apparent spree.

With Luke Shaw understood to be undergoing a medical, all the uncertainty around United being able to attract big money signings seems to have been quickly washed away.

Herrera said he was delighted to be joining, and told MUTV he could not wait to play under new manager Louis van Gaal.

Assistant boss Ryan Giggs subsequently confirmed Herrera would be joining the club on their pre-season tour of America, where the Red Devils will play Roma and Real Madrid among others.

He told "Signing for Manchester United is a dream come true. I have played at Old Trafford for Athletic Club in the UEFA Europa League and it was one of the highlights of my career so far. I have joined United to do all I can to help the team reach the club's objectives."

Herrera went onto explain in his MUTV interview that former Spanish under-21 teammates David de Gea and Juan Mata had been in touch, and helped sell the club and switch to England to him. Both contacted him on Twitter to wish him congratulations on the switch.

Herrera helps solve a problem position at the club, which has existed for years. Marouane Fellaini last summer was the first central midfielder signed by United since Owen Hargreaves in 2007, and his underwhelming season meant strengthening was required.

The Spaniard is not expected to fix the club's shortcomings in the area on his own. Juventus' Arturo Vidal has been linked, while William Carvalho of Sporting Lisbon remains an option.

Right now though United fans are simply basking in the glow of seeing the club seal their first major addition of the summer, and Herrera's signature is certainly being well received, with a little rare praise for CEO Ed Woodward.
