Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has been the subject of many jokes since the biting incident on Tuesday.
During Uruguay’s crucial World Cup Group D clash against Italy at the Arena das Dunas in Natal, the 27-year-old bit Giorgio Chiellini on the shoulder.
There was no indication of provocation from the Juventus centre-back, and Suarez was universally condemned for his behaviour.
It was the third time in his career that Suarez had bit an opponent while on the football pitch, and this time the punishment handed to him was huge.
FIFA has suspended him for nine international matches and has banned him from all football-related activities for four months. It is a severe punishment, and one that not many could foresee.
What one could foresee, however, was the number of jokes – both old and new – that would be made in the aftermath of the Suarez biting incident. And now England legend Gary Lineker has joined in as well.
The former Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur striker is currently in Brazil working as a presenter for the BBC’s World Cup coverage.
There are no games on Friday, which allowed Lineker to make a subtle joke about Suarez before his lunch on social networking site Twitter.
What on earth will we do today with no games to watch? Long lunch I suppose. Might see if Suarez is free and fancies a bite.— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) June 27, 2014
This may be the third time that Suarez has bit an opponent, but the old jokes never stop being funny, do they?
