The dual transfers of Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw to Manchester United may have taken the spotlight away from Jose Mourinho's canny work in the market in bringing Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona to Stamford Bridge with Diego Costa expected to imminently follow, but Chelsea may well be ready to trump the Old Trafford outfit if the latest transfer news is to be believed.
According to The Express, via Goal.com, Chelsea "are stepping up their efforts to land Paul Pogba from Juventus this summer by preparing a massive contract offer for the French midfielder."
A former United player, Pogba left the club without having even played one professional game under then boss Sir Alex Ferguson, however, in the two years that have since transpired, he has excelled in Serie A for the Old Lady of the Italian division.
Mourinho yesterday spoke of a great rebuilding project in West London, suggesting that he plans on adding to his squad despite the work already completed in the Cesc and Costa acquisitions.
If Pogba were to join Fabregas and Nemanja Matic in a three-way Chelsea midfield, Mourinho would have one of the most versatile central areas in European football with players who can nullify attacks, roam from box to box and create all represented.
The Express even claim Chelsea are ready to break the bank for Pogba, valued at £40 million by transfermarkt.co.uk, by making him the club's highest earner - even more than the £265,000 cheque that Fernando Torres cashes every week.
Meanwhile, London 24 quote "reports" when noting apparent Blues interest in versatile attacker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, 25, who is capable playing right wing, left wing and up front. Last season, for Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga, he scored 13 times and set up four goals from 32 appearances (21 starts).
Just yesterday, though, the player's father Pierre Aubameyang told Sport-BILD: "There is no truth in those rumours. My son will carry on at Borussia Dortmund. He likes it at the club and the club did a lot to help him settle. No one from Dortmund has told us that they are out to sell my son - much to the opposite.
“I am making sure that he is taking advices from his bosses to his heart.”
Aubameyang has a market valuation of £15 million.
And finally, Chelsea prospect Thorgan Hazard, brother of Eden, is a loan target for Malaga, according to talkSPORT.
