On Thursday, there was talk that Southampton striker Billy Sharp had been spotted at Derby University with the Derby County squad undertaking fitness tests ahead of their pre-season training.
The former Nottingham Forest loanee was alerted to the rumours and took to Twitter to deny the claims.
The 28-year-old striker has been tentatively linked with Derby for the past three or four seasons and Rams fans were once again unsurprised that rumours had re-emerged, although the reactions from supporters were mixed to say the least.
Sharp, who is considered to be out of the picture at Southampton, is expected to move on this summer and his well-deserved reputation as a goalscorer is likely to be enough to land him a Championship club.
Last season, although not as impressive as usual, he scored six Championship goals in 21 league starts, which considering he had a disjointed season at two different clubs is still a fairly respectable record at Championship level.
This summer, the experienced striker is likely to be keen on landing a permanent move away from Southampton for the upcoming season.
At 28 years of age, he will undoubtedly be looking to settle down at a club once more, and reignite his reputation as a goalscorer after a couple of seasons out of the spotlight. It just may not be at Derby.
