Manchester United are said to be considering several midfield options this summer. Of course a deal for Ander Herrera is in the offing - despite their initial bid being rejected this morning by Athletic Bilbao.
However the rumours will not stop there, and rightly so, United need to bring in more than just one midfield operator this summer.
Another one being mentioned is former Manchester City enforcer Nigel de Jong.
The links are obvious. He is used to the city and is a starter for new United boss Louis van Gaal for The Netherlands.
United are also in need of a midfielder who wins the ball in the middle of the park - someone with a little more bite then say Michael Carrick or Tom Cleverley.
And it is not just his relationship with LvG that could convince him of a move, he is also very friendly with the Dutch captain, and perhaps future United captain, Robin van Persie - as the Holland striker demonstrated this week.
He has posted a picture on Instagram of him and De Jong on a chat show, from all of 11 years ago, and there is not a grey hair in sight.
He accompanied the photo with the following message...
“@ndjofficial and me go way back!! Look at this great pic from our first tv interview together back in 2003 wow”
So it might not just be Van Gaal doing his best to bring in this cost efficient midfielder this summer, Van Persie might get a word in as well.
