Missed opportunity? Former Spurs target set for cut price Serie A switch

Sevilla's Argentine star is lined up for a discount transfer across the Mediterranean Sea.

Argentine winger Diego Perotti has long been on the shortlist of numerous Premier League clubs, with both Tottenham and Newcastle linked with the player in the past, but after a difficult couple of years at Sevilla, the Europa League winners have confirmed the 25-year-old is set for a move to Serie A.

The winger won a couple of caps for Argentina five years ago, and looked like being another superb young attacking talent to come out of the country. Sevilla snapped him up as a raw 20-year-old and saw him put in some strong performances in La Liga, leading to some high profile attention from elsewhere.

However, the last couple of years have seen the former Deportivo Moron player drift from the first team plans, and after making just 19 appearances for the Spanish outfit last season, he made a switch to Argentine giants Boca Juniors on loan in an attempt to find more playing time.

Sevilla president Jose Castro revealed that his club have agreed to sell Perotti to Genoa, with fees as low as €300,000 being mentioned by Marca.

“There is an agreement with Genoa for Perotti, it hasn’t been completely finalised,” Castro said at a Press conference.

“We hope to complete everything soon.”

Given his young age, and undoubted ability, it is fair to say that Genoa may be getting a bargain from La Liga, especially considering figures running into the millions were quoted just last season, and only time will tell whether Spurs or Newcastle will wish they would have snapped up the wideman when they had the chance.
