Shane Black of Lethal Weapon and Iron Man 3 fame to write the treatment and direct
Update: Since reporting this story it has come to light that the new Predator Movie will be coming as a sequel and not a reboot of the original series. For more information hit this link
The original story is below
A reboot of the Predator films is in the works, starting with a remake of the 1987 classic pumped-up sci-fi action film that aided Arnold Schwarzenegger’s rise to stardom.
20th Century Fox announced the latest revered title to get a reboot treatment will draw in the talents of Shane Black, a man viewed with comparable reverence in movie-land for his screenwriting talents on Lethal Weapon another classic action film from the 1980s. More recently Black has written and directed the films Kiis Kiss Bang Bang and Iron Man 3.
Hollywood Reporter notes that Black will be creating an initial treatment for Predator that will in turn be passed to Monster Squad's Fred Dekker to do the screenwriting honours. Black will then be in the helm to direct the film.
John Davis, who produced the original Predator along with Joel Silver and Lawrence Gordon, will also be producing the remake.
Predator has kept going over the years in various forms. After the Danny Glover fronted Predator 2 in 1990, Robert Rodriguez produced the Predators film in 2010 and the eponymous alien super hunters have also made their way into a couple of Alien vs Predator films.
Not much else is known about the film for now although we’re interested to see if Arnie makes an appearance.
What do you make of the news, is Predator a classic that should be left alone or do you think Black’s involvement in the project will make the remake worthwhile?
