Arsenal transfer news: Vermaelan bid rejected and Khedira again linked

All the latest news and gossip from The Emirates Stadium this morning.

Arsenal will have to battle with Manchester United if they want to snap up Chilean striker Alexis Sanchez this summer. The Barcelona forward has been in incredible form at the World Cup this summer, but is believed to be considering a switch away from the Nou Camp after reportedly becoming disgruntled at life with Blaugrana.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is rumoured to have met his agent in Brazil this month, while United are also said to be keen on the player - who could cost anything up to £25 million.

Juventus and Liverpool are also looking into his much coveted signature.

Arsenal have rejected a reported bid for club captain Thomas Vermaelen from Premier League rivals Manchester United.

Louis van Gaal is said to want the Belgian, who is no longer a first-team regular at The Emirates Stadium.

Recently the player himself denied he was intent on an Arsenal exit while Wenger is not happy with the idea of allowing him an exit. Wenger is expected to reject offers for the player, although a second bid is apparently imminent - with LvG keen on making Vermaelen his defensive solution, after the exits of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.

Arsenal are being linked with a move for German international Sami Khedira this morning. Reports in Spain suggest that Real Madrid are pressing ahead with their pursuit of Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos - meaning they will need to sell a midfield player to fund such a deal.

Khedira appears the main candidate and Arsenal are being mentioned as the favourites if he makes a move to the Premier League.

Arsenal are one of many teams who have been linked with the signature of Belgian forward Divock Origi in recent weeks. However the Lille attacker, who has shone at the World Cup, is now believed to be on his way to Liverpool - and not North London.
