Eder Balanta has been attracting a lot of attention across Europe after some sterling performances for both River Plate and Colombia.
It was thought that Liverpool and West Ham were at the front of the queue for the 21-year-old's signature but according to Tuttosport Juventus are now preparing to make an offer.
Balanta is rated at £6million and is being monitored by the likes of Barcelona and Roma.
Why all the fuss? Well Balanta is left-footed, powerfully built, strong in the air and a fearless tackler blessed with skill and speed.
Perhaps the one question mark against him is his lack of height, standing at 5 foot 11 and a half, and against the taller and more physical centre-forwards found in Europe's top leagues this could prove problematic.
Of all the clubs linked with his name Liverpool are perhaps the club in most need of his services following their dismal defensive showing last season in the Premier League that ultimately saw them slip up in the title race.
Martin Skrtel is simply not good enough and Mamadou Sakho was finding his feet.
So the news that Juventus could be about to hijack their move for Balanta will not be welcome.
The Old Lady's interest in him shows that they are not resting on their laurels after winning Serie A last season, aware of the need to add from a position of strength in order to maintain their status as top dogs in Italy.
A concerted effort in the forthcoming Champions League is also demanded of manager Antonio Conte.
Vice-president Matias Patanian told Radio La Red: "We have heard what an English newspaper is saying about West Ham.
"If the amount of money that the newspaper mentions is true and we receive an offer like that, then River could sit down and stat negotiations as it would be close to the amount the club expects for transferring Balanta.
"If the money that is being mentioned in the English media is that, then we will have to listen to them when we receive an official offer.
"Of course we would want to sell our players to the team that gets closest to our value."
