VIDEO: Liverpool and Spurs linked star nets fortunate winner in World Cup

Marcos Rojo - Portugal Vs Argentina, 9th February 2011

Argentina's Sporting Lisbon star Marcos Rojo is fast getting a reputation as one of the top defenders at the World Cup this summer.

Having long been on the radar of Liverpool this season, it looks like Marcos Rojo's performances have been more than strong enough to get fellow Premier League side Tottenham interested in his services, and with a fellow Argentine in charge at White Hart Lane, who knows where the 24-year-old will end up.

With Juventus also allegedly in the hunt, Rojo has clearly attracted some of the biggest sides around, and with Argentina going strong as they marched into the knockout stages with three wins from three, his stock is only going to continue to rise, especially after he scored the odd goal in five to ensure a win for the South Americans.

For much of Argentina's game with African Nations Cup winners Nigeria, it looked like a contest between superstar Lionel Messi and 21-year-old CSKA prodigy Ahmed Musa.

Both had scored braces to leave the match tied at 2-2, before Argentina won a corner just after Musa's second goal. The set piece was pumped into the box but flicked away from goal by Ezequiel Garay, only for an already airborne Rojo to deflect the ball into the net off his knee.

It was a lucky goal but proved to be the winner, and it may be the kind of luck the likes of Liverpool and Spurs are ready to invest in before the season begins.
