Atletico Madrid midfielder Tiago wants a Chelsea move, and he will sign a two-year contract this summer according to a report.
Spanish newspaper AS claims the 33-year-old is determined to return to London, despite having another offer on the table from a club in the United Arab Emirates.
Reports linking Tiago with a move to Chelsea first began last month, with the player out of contract this summer. But the latest suggestion is that while the Blues continue to chase his teammate Filipe Luis and monitor Diego Costa – whose move has been put in doubt by Atleti’s president Enrique Cerezo – Tiago will “almost certainly” be the first player from the club to join Chelsea.
Tiago made 33 appearances for the La Liga champions last season, scoring two goals and providing one assist in that time.
With Frank Lampard leaving Stamford Bridge he would also add some much-needed midfield cover, while his experience would be invaluable as Jose Mourinho looks to bring silverware back to the Blues.
The report concludes by stating that while the offers from Chelsea and the UAE are similar in terms of contract-length and wages, the appeal of a move back to his former club is stronger.
