Spanish journalist and TV pundit Guillem Balague has all but confirmed Manchester United’s imminent deal for Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera.
United are expected to compete a €36 million deal for the player before his buy-out clause increase to €40 million on July 1.
David Moyes tried to sign the player last summer with the infamous report of three men posing as Manchester United officials trying to get a deal done before the transfer deadline.
Balague has confirmed the deal is in the pipeline and has described Herrera as a ‘great signing’ for Louis van Gaal, suggesting that the Spaniard has the versatility to play as a number ten or deeper in United’s midfield.
Considering United already have Juan Mata in their squad, Herrera could find himself playing more of a central midfield role as opposed to an attacking one.
If the deal is confirmed in the near future, it’s a great way for United to start their transfer business this summer and hopefully for United fans, it’s a sign of things to come under LvG.
