Liverpool player Luis Alberto will complete a loan move to Malaga this week according to reports.
Spanish newspaper AS claims the 21-year-old winger is closing in on a deal with a final agreement ‘very close’.
Alberto only arrived at Anfield last summer in a £6.8million move from Sevilla. But having failed to make a dent in the first-team it appears Brendan Rodgers is happy to send him back to his homeland to give him such much needed regular football.
Huge things were expected of the player, who had shone on loan for Barcelona’s B team, scoring 11 goals in the process. But when the La Liga giants opted against signing him permanently, Liverpool swooped.
However, the player made just 12 appearances for the Reds last season, providing a single assist in the process – in the 5-0 away-win against Tottenham Hotspur.
The latest report claims negotiations are ongoing over the proportion of his wages that Liverpool and Malaga will pay, but that a deal should be finalised by Friday.
With a contract at Anfield until the summer of 2018, there is still plenty of time for Alberto to make an impact at the club. But for now it appears his first task is simply getting some minutes on the clock and rediscover the form that made him such hot property 12 months ago.
