Former Manchester United, Leeds United and West Ham United defender adds Queens Park Rangers to his CV - but not all fans are happy…
Free agent Rio Ferdinand had been employed by Manchester United for a dozen years, after spells at Leeds United and West Ham United.
By joining QPR, he reunites with his former mentor at the Hammers - Harry Redknapp - and brings with him the accumulated experience of six Premier League titles, a Champions League trophy and 81 international caps with England, amongst other honours.
Some Hoops fans have praised the club for recruiting a player with Ferdinand's pedigree, however, at 35 - and a player who will turn 36 before the next season is even at it's halfway stage - the deal has not been without criticism.
Already, a manipulated image of two snails attached to each other has gone viral due to it's caption quote - "Exclusive picture of Ferdinand and Dunne at QPR this morning."
And QPR supporters have expressed concern that the signing of Ferdinand will be atypical of the club's transfer strategy this summer.
I would take Rio Ferdinand every day of the week!! Still a class player with a good attitude. Exactly what we need #QPR— marc woolhead (@marc_woolhead) June 23, 2014
Why Ferdinand think could be good but it's risky why not someone who is younger but won't judge until seen him play #qpr— josh blake (@urmumshousem8) June 23, 2014
Mate why do we want Ferdinand we have plenty of overaged defenders #QPR— sheriVILE ⛳️ (@SheriVile) June 24, 2014
I don't dislike Rio Ferdinand. Good pundit! But he's 36 in November. Not how I want to see #qpr transfer strategy developing.— Steve S (@RuislipR) June 23, 2014
How can ANY fans turn their nose up at world class Rio Ferdinand? 10 years ago we had Chris Plummer and Steve Palmer at the back #QPR— Mr QPR (@QPRforum) June 24, 2014
