Outside the World Cup, there is still plenty going on in the rumour mill, with some interesting transfer stories producing engaging rumours and offering unique twists on player situations.
We’ve decided to take a look back on this day last year to see which stories were making the headlines.
‘Liverpool reveal £260 million plan’

‘Rooney wouldn’t cope at Arsenal or Chelsea’
Arsenal legend Tony Adams revealed his belief that Wayne Rooney wouldn’t be able to cope with life at Arsenal or Chelsea.
The Manchester United striker was linked with both clubs after indicating to former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson that he wanted to leave Old Trafford at the end of last season.
“I’m not sure Wayne Rooney could handle London, to be completely honest. That would be a massive risk. I don’t think it’s a question of finances. I think it’s his temperament and mentality. London is a different animal and it takes a different type of player,” said Adams.
‘Chelsea confirm Courtois loan’
Chelsea confirmed that goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois would spend another season on loan with Atletico Madrid.
The Belgian approached his third season at the club after impressing during the first two years.
He went on to be one of Diego Simeone’s most important players at the back of the team last season.
