Manchester United latest: Herrera deal ‘close’ and Buttner leaves

England took on Costa Rica this evening with Chris Smalling, Phil Jones starting for the Three Lions with Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck on the bench.

Spain beat Australia 3-0 on Monday night at the World Cup in Brazil. Juan Mata scored the Spaniard’s third goal after coming on for David Villa from the bench. David De Gea was also on the bench.

Meanwhile, Louis van Gaal’s Netherlands beat Chile 2-0 meaning the Oranges go through to the next stage of the World Cup top of their group and still unbeaten.

Robin van Persie served a one-match suspension but will be available for the next round.

In transfer news, The Telegraph reports that United are close to agreeing a deal to sign Ander Herrera for £29 million from Athletic Bilbao.

The Independent suggests United have offered £34 million for Luke Shaw in a further bid to bring the Southampton and England youngster to Old Trafford this summer.

The Mirror claims United are interested in signing Sami Khedira of Real Madrid. Meanwhile, Rio Ferdinand has agreed to join QPR following the expiry of his contract with the Red Devils.

Elsewhere, Alexander Buttner says he left United to ‘win trophies’ following Dynamo Moscow’s confirmation today that the left-back has signed for the Russian outfit.

Other reports suggest Arsenal was £12 million for captain Thomas Vermaelen who the Gunners could offer a new deal to stay on at the Emirates.
