Arsenal transfer news: Price set for Vermaelen, Aurier alternative emerges

A round up of transfer stories this morning about Arsenal.

The Daily Mail has suggested that Arsenal are holding out for a £12 million price on captain Thomas Vermaelen.

The Gunners leader has been linked with a move to Manchester United but the club reportedly want double United’s opening offer.

Vermaelen was forced off after half an hour in Belgium’s World Cup game against Russia.

The Mail also suggests that Arsenal are ready to pounce if Chelsea are unable to agree a new deal with Branislav Ivanovic.

Talks are thought to have stalled over a new deal for the versatile defender who can play in central or on the right side of defence.

Ivanovic could be a decent Serge Aurier alternative for Arsene Wenger to consider.

Arsenal may face competition for Aurier’s signature from local rivals Tottenham.

Spurs are reportedly considering a move under Mauricio Pochettino who wants to improve both sides of his defence.

Any deal would be worth at least £8 million which means the Gunners can go above Spurs for the player and price them out of the race.
