Arsenal signed two players on loan last season, and Arsene Wenger will not look back on either as a great success.
Kim Kallstrom's injury ruined his spell, while goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano was an enigma who did not play a single game and struggled to even win a place on the bench.
The Italian is to return to his club Palermo, and plans to address his future with the club ahead of pre-season beginning.
He yesterday gave an interview to Italian radio station Radio Blu as reported by Viola News, and picked a popular German star as the one player he would sign for Fiorentina, the local team for the channel.
"At Arsenal it was a positive experience where I enriched my life off the field, I knew that I would not have made the first goalkeeper but I accepted this role.
"I was weirded out that my companions did not know almost nothing of Fiorentina and in general almost all of Italian football.
"Who would look good in a purple shirt from the Gunners? Podolski I think could make a difference."
It's unlikely however that Podolski will be switching to Serie A any time soon. He remains a valued player at Arsenal, and has made no secret of his passion for former side Cologne, who were promoted back to the Bundesliga last season.
If he did depart the Gunners, that would surely be his destination. If anything, Arsenal are more likely to be the ones signing a star from Fiorentina, in Colombian star Juan Cuadrado with who they have been heavily linked.
