A Dutch fan went extra lengths to show his support for his nation by getting a huge tattoo of Manchester United duo Louis Van Gaal and Robin Van Persie.
Despite a shaky first forty minutes against Spain in their opening World Cup match, it has been a great start for the Netherlands, with two victories out of two and an impressive eight goals to boot.
Arjen Robben has naturally grabbed the headlines for his three goals so far, yet it was Robin Van Persie who was the catalyst for the Dutch’s bright start.
The Red Devils striker netted the equaliser during Holland’s opening 5-1 victory over Spain, scoring an astonishing looping diving header following a deep cross from left-back Daley Blind.
The 30-year-old’s body position when he connected with the ball has now become a major symbol back in his homeland, with fans all over imitating and taking pictures of what they now call ‘Persieing’.
It is this exact symbol which a particular Dutch fan has tattooed across his lower back, below a rather enlarged version of a stern-looking Louis Van Gaal.
So impressed by the artwork, Robin Van Persie tracked down the fan on Twitter and decided to send him a special message, saying: “The tattoo looks great. I will give it a beautiful signature after the World Cup. Regards, Robin.”
You never know, but maybe a daring Manchester United supporter will adopt a similar touch next season should the duo help the club wrestle back the Premier League title from city-rivals Manchester City.
