Atletico Madrid offer new deals to three stars to fend off Premier League trio

Atletico Madrid are to offer new contracts to Juanfran, Koke and Diego Godin in a bid to fend off interest from Premier League trio Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal.

Following Atletico Madrid’s highly successful campaign, a number of top European clubs have eyed up potential deals for their top stars.

Players such as Filipe Luis and Diego Costa are edging towards a move to Chelsea, whereas Koke and Arda Turan have been strongly linked with moves to Barcelona and Manchester United.

Whilst Atletico Madrid have stated that players could leave should suitors activate their release clause, Los Rojiblancos have now decided to offer a wage hike to three players in a bid to convince them to stay in the Spanish capital.

According to the Spanish newspaper AS, the combined rise will likely cost the club €15 million, but given their contribution over the past few years, losing one of them could arguably cost more in the long run.

The three players mentioned are as follows:

The Spanish international right-back has been linked with a move to Arsenal this summer, with the Gunners intent on finding a solid replacement for the out-going Bacary Sagna.

Juanfran was offered a move to North London last year, but as a result of his commitment to Atletico Madrid, the 29-year-old rejected such advances.

Arsene Wenger, however, wasn’t afraid to ask again this summer as he sought out his long-standing target, yet Juanfran gave the Frenchman the same an answer and a new wage hike will only strengthen his ties with the La Liga club.

The 22-year-old midfielder was one of the stars of La Liga throughout 2013/14, helping the club with their first title since 1996 and finishing the season as Spain’s leading player in assists.

His performances attracted the attentions of Manchester United, who in part weren’t put off by the midfielder’s €60 million release clause.

The Red Devils are in desperate need of adding a new midfielder this summer, but United will ultimately have to look elsewhere as Koke’s long-term future at the Vicente Calderon Stadium appears to be extremely solid.

Diego Godin:

The 28-year-old centre-back is another Atleti star heavily linked with a move to Chelsea, though unlike Filipe Luis and Diego Costa, the Uruguayan international still sees his future in the Spanish capital.

The Blues have been keen to bolster their defensive ranks over the summer, and Diego Godin represents a fine choice given the season he has just had alongside Manchester United-linked Miranda.

Godin, however, has so far rejected any talk of a move away from the club and an increase in wages will no doubt secure his long-term future for the La Liga champions.
