Alan Pardew has predicted a busy summer of comings and goings at St James’ Park, with these four World Cup stars in line for a Magpies move.
The World Cup has thrown up plenty of surprises for football fans across the globe, however when it comes to the Toon Army, arguably the biggest shock has come with the news that club owner Mike Ashley is set to open his wallet.
And the two could be set to collide amid reports linking Newcastle United with four of the stars on show in Brazil – read on to find out more.
Enner Valencia – Ecuador
The standout performer for the South American underdogs, Valencia has already racked up three goals in two games for La Tri at this World Cup to leave him rubbing shoulders with the likes of Robin van Persie and Thomas Muller in the top scorer standings.
Currently on the books of Mexican side Pachuca, where he has scored a sensational 18 goals in 23 games, Valencia has been linked with a move to Newcastle United who could capture the 25-year-old for as little as £7 million.
Remy Cabella – France
A late call up to the France squad following the withdrawal through injury of Franck Ribery and fellow Magpies target Clement Grenier, Newcastle have been negotiating with current club Montpellier for some time over a potential deal for Cabella.
At present, discussions appear to have hit something of a dead end, with the Toon so far unwilling to meet the Ligue 1 side’s valuation of the midfielder. An eventful showing in Les Bleus’ final group fixture could change that.
Wilfried Bony – Ivory Coast
Previously identified as a key transfer target by the Magpies, Bony’s agent moved to dismiss suggestions of a move to Newcastle, claiming that the Ivorian would only depart Swansea City for a team in the Premier League’s top six.
But with no offer forthcoming from the likes of Arsenal or Liverpool, Bony could be set to reconsider his stance, following a World Cup in which he has only impressed in parts, despite finding the net in the opener against Japan.
Andre Ayew – Ghana
One of the stars of Ghana’s sensational 2-2 draw with Germany over the weekend, Andre Ayew has been linked with a move to Liverpool but is also thought to be on Newcastle United’s radar, with reports in the French media linking both clubs to a move for the Marseille man.
Much could depend on the situation surrounding Adam Lallana, with any Liverpool move for the Southampton star likely to clear the way for Ayew to arrive at St James’ Park.
