Report - Aston Villa make an offer for Leeds United target

Aston Villa

Aston Villa have reportedly made an offer for Leeds United linked Brazilian Jefferson.

According to reports in Italy, Aston Villa have made an offer for Brazilian striker Jefferson after he announced that he would be renewing his contract with Latina following the club's play-off final deat to Catania for a place in Serie A.

Earlier in the month, the news broke that the striker's agent was in England talking to both Aston Villa and Leeds United about his client. However, fresh reports indicate that Aston Villa have made an offer for the striker who is now also being monitored by Serie A clubs.

The report states: 'He missed out on promotion to Serie A in the shirt of Latina, but for Jefferson [26] now is the time to start a new experience. The Brazilian forward's contract expires at the end of the month and, as anticipated by TMW, is not going to renew with pontine club.

'Bari and Pescara have expressed an interest, but an offer has come from England's Aston Villa. Serie A's Chievo Verona also likes Jefferson, and have made contact with the player's agent.'

Jefferson, who began his career at Parana in Brazil- moved to Italy to join Fiorentina in 2008 but failed to make a single appearance for the club.

He spent the majority of his time at the Florence-based side on-loan to lower league Italian clubs such as Frosinone, Cassino, Eupen and eventually Latina, who he signed for permanently in 2012.

Last season, he was brought on from the bench in the majority of his appearances for the Serie B side and only managed four goals in 20 appearances. A record that leaves a lot to be desired.

Nevertheless, if the claims from Italy are true, Paul Lambert must have seen or heard something he liked from the player, or his agent, in order to offer him a deal at the club for next season.

He could look to become another diamond in the rough for the former Norwich manager.
