Netherlands player ratings v Chile: Ex-Chelsea man strong

Dirk Kuyt Netherlands

Leroy Fer grabbed the headlines as he scored the first in a 2-0 win for the Netherlands that leaves them finishing top of Group B, while Arjen Robben once again starred.

Netherlands have been impressing many people with their performances so far with their attacking threat, but this one was as equally as impressive but for their defensive resilience.

Playing on the break throughout against a strong and in-form Chile side, the Netherlands secured a 2-0 win from a late Leroy Fer header and a stoppage time tap in from Memphis Depay after a superb run from Arjen Robben. The former Chelsea winger has been outstanding so far in the World Cup and will need to continue his great form if his country is to go one step further than 2010.

Here are the player ratings for the Netherlands:

Jasper Cillessen - 7

The Netherlands defence wasn't breached too often leaving Cillessen too many saves to make, but kept his first clean sheet of the tournament so will be happy.

Daryl Janmaat - 7

Defensively solid in a back three that managed to keep Alexis Sanchez quiet for most of the match, will be hoping to continue his good form into the next round.

Ron Vlaar - 7

The Aston Villa defender was strong in the air as always, especially from corners and free-kicks as Chile looked to score an equaliser. Solid performance.

Stefan De Vrij - 6

Struggled at times with the movement of Sanchez when he moved over to his side of defence, but didn't give any important fouls away.

Daley Blind - 7

The Ajax midfielder was tested defensively today, and showed his capabilities there as well as threat going forward. He will be pleased with his form at the moment.

Georginio Wijnaldum - 7

Starting his first match of the tournament, he slotted in well into the midfield and protected his defenders from the movement of the Chile midfield. Struggled at times though when closed down with the ball.

Nigel De Jong - 8

The former Manchester City midfielder was brilliant in stopping Chile from creating any clear chances. The South Americans were unable to cope with closing down and tackles, brilliant performance from the holding midfielder.

Dirk Kuyt - 7

Playing in the left wing-back position we hadn't come to expect during his time at Liverpool, his work rate and hard work for the team was still brilliant. Real team performance playing in a role he isn't used to.

Wesley Sneijder - 7

The creative midfielder had lashes of brilliance when he played some superb cross field passes and finding space where it looked like there was none, but his final ball was missing from his overall good play.

Arjen Robben - 8

Continues to be the player of the tournament so far. Every time he gets the ball he looks to take defenders on with his pace, and most of the times so far it is working. Could have scored in the first half with a great run and set up the second goal with another run.

Jeremain Lens - 7

Come in for the suspended Robin Van Persie and the striker looked to create chances for himself and others in a very tactical match, struggled to find the space but a solid performance none the less.

Memphis Depay - 8

Come on for Jeremain Lens after 69 minutes, made a strong impact. Great run and shot that led to the first goal, great pace to keep up with Robben and score the second. Could be usefull in the knockout stages making an impact off the bench.

Leroy Fer - 7

Come on for Wesley Sneijder after 75 minutes, grabbed the decisive goal. The Norwich City midfielder scored a lovely header and looked solid elssewhere, done his chances of starting no harm.

Terence Kongolo - N/A

Come on for Dirk Kuyt after 89 minutes.
