Manchester United transfer news: ‘Two-way battle’ for £36m defender; Kroos still on Real radar

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

The stories persist linking reported Manchester United target Toni Kroos with a move to Real Madrid.

Spanish broadsheet El Confidencial claims the German international’s agent has visited the Bernabeu in recent days and Real’s tracking of the player continues.

This comes after United boss Louis van Gaal reportedly made strides to convince Kroos to follow him to Old Trafford. And yet the latest suggestion is that Real could sign up to three new midfielders this summer – Kroos being one of them.

In other news, the Daily Star claims Barcelona are no longer interested in FC Porto centre-back Eliaquim Mangala, reportedly making it a two-horse race between United and Chelsea.

Van Gaal is said to be keen on the Frenchman and if the La Liga side really have turned their back on one potential replacement for Carles Puyol, United may consider him a good option to replace the outgoing Nemanja Vidic.

That said, they have also been linked with both Mats Hummels and Bruno Martins Indi, both of whom would likely be available for less than Porto’s reported asking-price of around £36million.
