William Carvalho showed his worth for Portugal against USA in their World Cup clash, putting in an impressive display off the bench in a 2-2 draw.
The 22-year-old served to enhance his reputation and illustrate why he has been linked with a transfer to Manchester United.
If United are serious about snapping him up, then using international teammate Nani to convince him of a move to Old Trafford should not be too difficult, for it has worked once before.
European website Panenka.org take up the story: "Aurelio Pereira, a legend in the department of Sporting's youth, spoke to the boy and asked, "Which player is the one you like in the Sporting? "
"Nani" he replied. An hour later, Nani in person called William Carvalho to tell him to sign for Sporting.
"And the boy did. The club paid a figure of 12,500 euros for a boy of 14 years old."
Nani went onto sign for Manchester United, where his talent has provided sadly more infuriating moments than sublime ones - even if Phil Neville yesterday compared him to Cristiano Ronaldo.
Carvalho is precisely the type of dominant midfielder the Red Devils need in their side, and they would be wise to renew their interest, which appears in question after Louis van Gaal was appointed.
He certainly is not the starstruck teenager he was back in his Sporting days, but he clearly holds Nani in high regard and will take any advice the winger gives him very seriously regarding a switch.
