Lee Peltier's departure from Elland Road seems to have provided Leeds fans with some much needed happiness ahead of the new season.
Leeds United have announced that Lee Peltier has left the club, after mutually agreeing to terminate his contract at Elland Road, and their supporters seem to have taken the news surprisingly well.
Peltier has been at Leeds since 2012, making 63 appearances for the club, but he seemingly did not make a good impression on many of the club's supporters.
Peltier was used at right-back - his favoured position for most of his career prior to his move to Leeds - left-back and as cover at centre-back during his time at Elland Road, and not having a settled position was arguably part of the reason that he struggled to make an impact.
He looked most comfortable playing at the heart of Leeds' defence during his time there, but was only used as a centre-back sparingly.
Still, more was certainly expected of Peltier after he joined from Leicester City with a reputation as one of the finest defenders outside the Premier League.
The 27-year-old took to Twitter to inform people of his departure today.
I have now officially left Leeds united football club, just want to thank all the people at the club who have helped and supported me— Lee Peltier (@Pelts_86) June 23, 2014
All the fans that have supported me over the two years, and all the boys at the club been a pleasure working with them top lad, wish them— Lee Peltier (@Pelts_86) June 23, 2014
All the beys for the season, now time for me to me on to the next chapeter off my career and look forward to the future— Lee Peltier (@Pelts_86) June 23, 2014
However, the reaction from a number of Leeds supporters will not have been what he was hoping for, with most appearing delighted to have seen the back of him.
Here are just a selection of tweets from Leeds fans who were pleased with the news that he has left the club.
@Pelts_86 another off the wagebill. Who's the unlucky new club?? Good riddance— Adam Brown (@adambrown865) June 23, 2014
@Pelts_86 cheers for slagging off the club and being useless throughout your whole time— James (@frudd28) June 23, 2014
Lee Peltier really was a disappointment right from the day he joined, only regret is not getting cash for him when chance was there #lufc— Sami Ramsden (@samiramsden) June 23, 2014
I'll miss Lee Peltier but not as much as his crosses missed everyone in a white shirt in the penalty area. #lufc— Peter Smith (@Redpeter99) June 23, 2014
The former Huddersfield Town man has already been linked with a move to Nottingham Forest, where he spent part of last season on loan at, and he will be hoping to have a better time at the City Ground.
Forest supporters will also be encouraged by the fact that although the reaction of some Leeds fans may have seemed quite cruel, there were a few who praised Peltier’s contribution to the club.
@Pelts_86 all the best and wishing you well with your next club. You did not deserve all the criticism you got— Paul PK Kelly (@Pkelly1965) June 23, 2014
Sad thing is, Peltier's probably our best centre-back. #LUFC— The Scratching Shed (@TSSLUFC) June 23, 2014
Leeds are thought to have released Peltier to free up wages for other transfer targets, with the club expected to be fairly active in the transfer window this summer.
